I really don’t know what we did during winter before we introduced essential oils into our life. My husband and I spent 6 years of back to back winters between New Zealand and “Some place warm, a place where the beer flows like wine, where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I’m talking about a little place called Aspen” in the Northern Hemisphere it was insane, but when we were sick, it was the worst! We would spend days in bed, I would have a folded up tissue in my jacket pocket with a pile of vix vapour smooshed into the centre and I would smell it on the lift trying to combat the constant congenstion and runny noses on those crisp early mornings on the mountain. It wasn’t ideal and really didn’t do alot.
Since introducing doTERRA into our life, our winter regime has completely changed. We use the power of these oils to protect us from the onset of colds, we use them to boost our immune systems, to maintain clear airways and to promote relaxation when we aren’t feeling the greatest. My life long ear infection battle that rears it’s ugly head each winter is now completely under control.
I am going to share with you some of the ways we support our families health through winter with some natural and safe remedies.

OUR FAVOURITE SINGLE OILS
OREGANO – Oregano is often called ‘natures antibiotic’. Oregano is a ‘hot’ oil and should always be diluted. Oregano has many immune boosting properties and is very high in antioxidants.
LEMON – Lemon provides a healthy immunity boost and also supports healthy respiratory function. Lemon is a very versatile oil and a must have for winter.
GINGER – Ginger has many healing properties and will support your health during winter. Perfect to add a drop to your lemon, honey drink to soothe a sore throat.
FRANKINCENSE – I add Frank to the diffuser with Easy Air when the kids have a cough. Frankincense supports a healthy cellular function and has many health benefits to keep us healthy and well during winter.
MANUKA – Manuka is the perfect oil for winter wellness. It is great for purifying the air and you can also dilute and apply topically to the throat when its sore. Manuka has many calming and healing properties. We love to make a Manuka, Ginger and Lemon tea to soothe a sore throat.
OUR FAVOURITE OIL BLENDS
ON GUARD – I love the smell of on Guard, it takes me straight back to our Aspen winters at christmas time. We use it like it’s going out of fashion. On Guard is a protective blend which supports healthy immune function and includes wild orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus & rosemary. It protects our bodies against environmental threats and I usually apply it to our feet daily to prevent getting unwell, especially before a play date! My husband likes to rub some on his throat and gargle in some water when he feels a tickle in his throat. We diffuse this daily if anyone is unwell as it kills airborn pathogens.
We LOVE that most of the oils we use to protect us during winter are available in these pre diluted roller bottles, my 2.5 year old loves to apply them herself.
EASY AIR/BREATHE – Our favourite!! Known as the respiratory blend and includes peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree, lemon & cardamon. We diffuse this often in our bedrooms overnight to support breathing and any respiratory problems. We also use on our chest, back and feet. We diffuse this alongside On Guard to create a power duo of immunity deffence and easy breathing.
WINTER WELLNESS REMEDIES
In your diffuser place one drop of Oregano, 1 drop Frankincense, 2 drops of On Guard.
Add 5 drops of Easy Air to a bowl of boiled water. Place towel over head, close eyes and inhale in big deep breaths.
Tackle anything tea
In a cup of boiling water place, one drop of Manuka, one drop of ginger and two drops of lemon, for a throat soothing tea.
Get a teaspoon of manuka honey and add one drop lemon and one drop ginger. Take internally.
In your diffuser place 4 drops of Easy Air and 4 drops of On Guard.
Essential oils truly allow us to really enjoy the colder months without the constant struggle of colds and flus. This is how we love to use our oils.
